Who grants the right to sell

The seller, using one of CGTrader's own license types. The platform writes the licenses, each listing says which one applies, and a default applies if the seller picks nothing. So you need the listing for which license, and the platform's terms for what it allows.

Where to find it

This section is about the platform's web pages, not its terms, so the terms can't confirm it. We haven't checked it against the live site recently, so treat it as a starting point and check the site yourself.

  • The license named on the product page. CGTrader's terms have the seller choose it when they upload, and the Royalty Free License applies if they choose nothing.
  • The product description's Custom license terms. CGTrader's terms say extra permissions only count when they are written there, as additions to the standard license.
  • Not the download. The terms say license wording put anywhere else, such as a text file inside the model, has no effect for purchases made on the site.

What the labels mean

Royalty Free License
CGTrader's default. Its terms rule out selling or giving the product away in 3D printed physical form, so on its own it does not let you sell prints.
Royalty Free License, No AI
The same, with training AI models excluded too. It is what applies to downloads made through a CGTrader subscription.
Editorial License
Narrower still: for news and editorial use. Not for selling products.
Custom License
Where a seller can grant more, including selling prints, in the listing's Custom license terms. This is the one to look for.

Worth knowing

  • This is the one to watch on CGTrader. Royalty free sounds as though it covers selling prints, and CGTrader's terms say the default license does not. Unless the listing grants it in Custom license terms, assume selling prints is not included.
  • A subscription download is always under the No AI version of the Royalty Free License, which is no more generous about prints.

What to keep

Terms change, and in a dispute what counts is what you agreed to on the day. Save a copy when you buy, not when someone asks for it.

  • The product page as it read on the day you bought, including the license type and anything in Custom license terms.
  • The CGTrader order confirmation or receipt.
  • The seller's name and the product URL.

The authority

This page describes how licensing works here in our own words. It is not a statement of what you are permitted to do, and it does not reproduce anyone's terms. Read the CGTrader terms

CGTrader's General Terms and Conditions carry no visible last-updated date, so there is no document version to quote here, only the date we last read it. The licenses are in sections 20 to 22 of that page.

Licensing confirmed against the platform's own terms on 30 Sept 2026.
