Selling prints from Gumroad
Gumroad sells the file, but the creator sets the licence: its terms say each product is licensed by the creator, through Gumroad, on the creator's own terms.

Who grants the right to sell
The designer. Gumroad hosts the file, but the person who uploaded it decides whether prints can be sold, model by model. So two models on the same site can have opposite answers.
Where to find it
This section is about the platform's web pages, not its terms, so the terms can't confirm it. We haven't checked it against the live site recently, so treat it as a starting point and check the site yourself.
- The product page and the licence text shown when you buy. Gumroad's terms have creators supply their own end-user licence terms, which Gumroad presents to you at purchase.
- The version or option you are buying. Designers often sell a personal and a commercial version of the same file, as separate options or separate products at different prices.
- If it is a membership rather than a one-off product, what the membership says about selling prints, and whether that lasts beyond the months you pay for.
What the labels mean
- A commercial version or option
- The designer's own offer, usually at a higher price than the personal file. Gumroad does not define what commercial means here; the designer's terms do.
- Gumroad as merchant of record
- Gumroad takes the payment and issues the receipt, but that does not make it the licensor. Its terms say the licence comes from the creator.
Worth knowing
- The receipt comes from Gumroad, not the designer. That is normal and it proves the purchase, but it is the designer's licence terms that say what you may do. Keep both.
- Some designers sell memberships on Gumroad as well as products. Those work like a Patreon tier: check whether permission lasts after you stop paying.
What to keep
Terms change, and in a dispute what counts is what you agreed to on the day. Save a copy when you buy, not when someone asks for it.
- The product page and its licence terms as they read on the day you bought, including which option you chose.
- The Gumroad receipt, which names the product and the option.
- The creator's name and the product URL, so the record points at one specific offer.
The authority
This page describes how licensing works here in our own words. It is not a statement of what you are permitted to do, and it does not reproduce anyone's terms. Read the Gumroad terms
